Mile 1:
The first mile went by super fast and felt easy once I got past the start...probably due to adrenaline. I learned that in future races I need to get there earlier-I started towards the back of the pack which really slowed me down because I had to weave around the walkers throughout the race.
Mile 2:
There was a strong headwind throughout the race, but mile two was extra windy and difficult because we ran over the Clearwater Memorial Causeway. However, the views were gorgeous. At the very top of the bridge, I looked out over the water and there was a beautiful rainbow! I wish that I had a photo of it! As we ran past cars on the bridge, many of the drivers cheered us on. At the bottom of the bridge was a water station-I was extra thankful for the volunteers there because I was super thirsty after tackling that bridge!
Mile 3:
I literally had chills during mile three because I knew that I was about to finish my first 5k! I saw Ryan (my fiance) at the last couple of turns cheering me on loudly and it really pumped me up! I sprinted as fast as I could during the final stretch to the finish line! I had the biggest goofy grin on my face for hours afterwards! It was so much fun! I certainly wasn't the fastest runner, but I'm really happy with how I did-especially considering the fact that I was still sick with pneumonia a week ago! I actually ran 7 minutes faster than my 3 mile training run the Friday before! Best day ever!| Ryan took this photo of me-two more turns before the finish line! |
